Yesterday, U.S. Senatorial candidate Representative Paul Broun did not vote on any bills. Phil Gingrey and Jack Kingston voted for H.R.3588, Community Fire Safety Act of 2013 while This bill fixed a problem where the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974 did not allow leaded pipes to be used to put our fires.
The Constitutional Authority Statement says, "Congress has the power to enact this legislation pursuant to the following: According to Article I, Section 8, Clause 3 of the Constitution." This refers to the Commerce Clause that says, "To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes."
Most Americans would be unable to see a connection between the federal government regulating trade across state and national borders and regulating fire fighting water safety within the borders of a state.
Our Constitution was written to decrease the power of the federal government. The idea was that if a bad law was written, only those states that passed the law would need to follow it. Fire and drinking water regulations should be made by state and local governments, not by our national governments.
If you want an expansion of the federal government then vote for these Representatives who are running for the U.S. Senate. They have learned the ways of Washington. If you want a smaller government then look to the other candidates.
